The million year old blog

Einsiedeln is a truly lovely little town about an hour away from Zurich, and around Christmas each year they have a rather sizely Market which attracts tourists from just about everywhere. I had never been to the town itself, so the usual suspects and I decided that we could spend a day in the town itself, and then visit the market in the evening’s dark.
The town as I said is just beautiful, and of course tiny. And so we ended up walking to the nearby town of Birchli, and then to the lake Sihlsee. I really enjoyed the heavily snow-covered scenery and the lake was just dreamy! Of course we also went inside the well known Ensiedeln monastery which was quite amazing.
The market was also very pretty, and very big. Not really the best place for gift-shopping, but more for eating. 😉 But I think maybe the local band should choose a different selection of songs to perform for the next year. A little less funeral-ish, maybe!

A couple of weekends ago Cristina drove us to Konstanz for a 1 day trip, to see the city and meet a friend of hers. It was my first time in Konstanz and I wanted to take a lot of pictures, but unfortunately the terrible weather and all the rain and fog, made for a collection of horribly gray pictures. =P
Nonetheless, the trip itself was a lot of fun and we had a great time. =)
Pictures here.

And, I’ve uploaded the pictures from our trip to Ãœetliberg couple of weeks ago. It was a heavily foggy day and not much could be seen, but at least the group photo turned out well. =)

A couple of days ago I attended this really great presentation on “RabbitMQ Internal Architecture“, which was hosted by the Zurich Erlang group. The presentation slides are available here, so if you have any interest in RabbitMQ, Erlang, or both, do check them out. =)

AOP is something that I’ve been hearing about for the past… well… forever, and it’s always seemed that every time someone makes a mention of it, someone else goes about mentioning all the cons.
I can’t say that I’ve really looked that deep into it in the past, but I guess last night’s presentation on AOP using PostSharp has made me re-think. I should probably at least give it a try… any opinions? Anyone else want to tell me about all the cons? =P [Cause that’s what I’ve been hearing since morning….]

Another short trip we recently took, was a one day trip to Geneva. One day is definitely not enough to explore Geneva, and as usual we have to go back. But we did manage to see a good deal. Pictures are finally uploaded and can be found here.

Aarau is truly a beautiful city. It’s even better if you’re exploring it with good friends. 😉

Thanks to a friend of mine, recently I learned about the “Brocki” stores all around Zurich. These are quite elaborate 2nd hand stores, many of which apparently have massive book shelves. A few weekends ago we went to Brocki-Land, which I think has the most amazing collection of books, since it has huge shelves in the main room and then also a separate book store. Safe to say one visit was not enough, I have to go back there again at some point. 😉

One of the more interesting events that I’ve recently been to, was the “Press Start To Play” at the Basel Toy Museum. The event that was hosted by the Webilea group, consisted of a tour of the exhibition, presentations by several game developers, and a good deal of play time. The venue was beautiful and altogether it was quite a fun evening.
My favourite presented game was “Ago“, a very nice game for Android. Currently installed on my tablet. 😉
My collection of pictures from the event can be found here.

Pictures from our photo walk / hike around Biel are finally online. It was a fun day and we managed to see much of the city. We do however need to go back there for a proper hike… 😉
