The million year old blog

Some good news: Bookmark www.asd.gr , the brand new ASD website. Although it’s still under-construction, but the weblog is already up and running: http://asd.gr/WordPress . 🙂
Also, I just heard some guys saying that they didn’t get the chance to vote for the ASD demo in the Intel competition. Well guess what, you STILL HAVE TIME, and as far as I know you can vote till the end of this month. So go ahead people, VOTE, NOW! =D

aaaa till the end of this month?? why didn’t you say so before?!?!?!? 😀
Yeah specially cause it seems like ASD needs more votes! Vote ppl vote!
Lets vote.
Ah ok I voted, but it seems like some other group is on the top now!?
Ok, something is not right here! Do you realise how many people voted for the ASD demo today from school?? And the vote measure thingie keeps going down! What the hell?
Exactly! I second Janice, I saw with my own eyes that after we watched the demos and people voted, the ASD vote measure went up, but then it came down right away, wtf?
Yeah guys just keep sending the news around and voting.
Hmmm, just voted too. 🙂
voted 😉
Well ASD seems to be on the top. I also like the conspiracy demo!
I wonder how this is done, a large group of people finally get to see the ASD demo and vote. Less than 24 hours later, it seems like all our votes have dissapeard!
Well maybe the other group suddenly had a fan meeting too. Although it seems like a bit of an unlikely timing!!!!! Well………..
I wonder how the Conspiracy demo ended up at 4th. I’d put it at 2nd. The ASD demo has magically fallen into the 2nd place again. Strange isn’t it?
Well I’d put the Fairlight demo at 2nd. It’s kinda cool but it’s still faaaaaaaaar from being the first. the ASD demo is far more impressive than all others.
The Fairlight demo is very modern, fresh and original in style – really stands out for me. The ASD one is also excellent. Either of those would deserve the 1st place, although Fairlight’s edges it for me. Didn’t really like the others though.
Well I agree with the above comment, to some extent. Both demos are pretty good. But I think more work has been put into the ASD demo.
However, my major question here is, however did the votes from yesterday’s meeting lose effect so fast? ASD’s little vote bar thing was almost full blue. Are you telling me that in the past 24 hours, THAT many people have voted negative for ASD? Somehow I find that difficult to believe.
Alexis: I totally 2nd you.
George: I sorta removed your comment. Please calm down a little, and post again. Thx! 🙂
hi,
alexis: unfortunately the site got hacked one night in asd’s favour (but not by an asd member, by some random idiot causing trouble), and the organisers had to correct it.
on sunday night, fairlight had a 12% lead on 72%, with asd on 60%. from almost one month of voting. in the course of 5 minutes it changed so asd had about 80% and fairlight had 44%. 🙂
unfortunately this happened again several times – so asd would gain huge scores, and it had to be corrected (altho it wasnt completely corrected). rather sad for fairlight, who had a comfortable lead before the hacking started. asd are equally pissed off about it – everybody really wants a _fair_ contest which represents the feelings of the public towards the demos, not about some hacker showing his skills.
hoi, smash from fairlight here. we saw there was a lot of activity on this site about the contest.
in the vein of the previous post, i can only appeal to people’s better nature and ask them that if they like more than one demo there, that they vote them all up – not voting down a demo for the sake of another group. if you want to vote up asd, please dont vote us down too unless you really dont like our demo. 🙂
none of them deserve a “flop” in my humble opinion – all of the groups involved are all friends, we’d all be happy whoever won, as long as it’s a fair and open contest throughout. 🙂
Hey guys. 🙂
From what my understanding is, the people here have just voted up their favorite demos. No voting down has happened. We are only a group of viewers here.
I also need to mention that the reason for ASD’s vote count suddenly spiking up, is that people here have had little get togethers to watch the competition demos, and after that everyone voted at the same time.
Anyway, again, we don’t vote anyone down. We just like to watch, and if some people are asking questions now, well it’s only because of the observations that they have made. 🙂
Thanks for visiting this place. 🙂
thats good to know.
the reason we are worried is that last night in a couple of hours we dropped from 85% to 79% – a huge drop that can only be due to a lot of downvoting. i believe that was still the result of someone hacking, but it’s hard to prove it or get the organisers to believe it.
to change the votes by just 1% at this stage would take like 100-200 votes or more in all the same direction.. 🙂 so it’s certainly strange to see any huge spiking at this stage.
Oh just like Aasemoon just said, we don’t vote down. Actually a lot of people voted up for the Conspiracy and Fairlight demos too.
I have to say though, it could cause spikes. We are students of 3 separete faculties here so there’s a lot of us. =)
damn, i had no idea so many people were watching the demos. excellent.
Yeah watching sure they do. =P Gotta see what happens when you ask them if they wanna help “make” one!
Ehm, personal observation here:
Hacking the website sucks. Whoever has done it, is such a spirit killer! 🙁
Aasemoon: I could make you a powerpoint presentation! 😛
aasemoon: you’re on the wrong side of the globe for that! ;))
It seems to me like some disturbed person keeps playing around with the results, each time in favor of one group, so it will look like… well you know what it will look like! :S
It really saddens me to see that this competition has lost its scope. All 5 groups spent a lot of creative days and 5 musicians endured DJ Hell’s sonic weapons (sorry man.. your tracks were just horrid), to only see their prods competing in a “who has the most paranoid fan” competition.
I guess, the competition site should have taken special care into securing the voting procedure. Leave a hole and someone is bound to exploit it. I mean for frack’s sake, I made a friggin snake game in flash for http://www.siradio.fm, and someone went to GREAT lengths to artificially put his name on the hall of fame.
Scene awards has made this one perfectly. And I know that an account registration might affect the number of possible voters, but I think it’s better to have a competition with a few REAL voters, rather than a lot of voters and totally screwed up result which only destroys the fun, sows suspicion between groups that are friends, and also puts a bad precedence for future outreach attempts.
FYI, there has been constant flopping of our demo throughout the voting duration, and judging by the averages of the other demos, there must have been a lot of flopping for pretty much all demos, as the top/flop ratio is not reflective of what people’s opinion is at pouet.
Personally, I don’t get any excitement from the prospect of travelling to Germany for the party anymore, independantly of the end result of the voting. Only thing that would make it interesting is kb’s idea to “form a circle around DJ Hell, point fingers at him and laugh”.
Thanks to aasemoon for showing all demos to people who enjoyed them. As a matter of fact, aasemoon has done the best service for the demoscene in north america of any person I know, and I am not talking about this compo only !
We don’t like our fans (or any fans of other groups) to be mindless thumb down zombies; maybe pouet is the best place to thumb down something because you can give a reason why you dislike xyz. (unless the demo sucks and it is pretty obvious).
And don’t forget: Hacking is for the moment.. but a demo.. it is forever !
Thanks a lot Navis & aMUSiC for your comments, and for clearing things up a little. =)
I sincerely hope that the fans are not involved in the hacking or flopping. Actually it seems to me like this situation could very well be caused by some “script kiddies” [I believe that’s the technical term, as a friend mentioned to me! =))] who are just trying to get the groups and fans upset. Ah well. Lets just enjoy the art! =)
Yup, thanks to Aasemoon we all got the chance to watch some very enjoyable works of art, and I can assure you that the “zombie voting” is not coming from this side! :))
amusic: word. in the end, the blame lies with intel for not fixing the vote system. a simple requirement for registration would have fixed 99% of problems. the site is terrible anyway – anyone can see that straight away, a lot of people didnt even manage to navigate to the demos, let alone the vote buttons.
respect to all the people who take the time to watch the stuff with an open mind. especially over the atlantic where the scene isnt quite so well known. =) (best outreach success in some time)
Ah seems like a lot has happened around here while I way away! 🙂 Well that site sure looks crappy! The demos were pretty cool though. Nice job you guys! And yeah definitely thanks Aasemoon for transmitting the news to this side of the globe. 🙂
Ssso I’m not the only one who had problems with that website’s navigation! Well hoorays to intel then. For the demos, I really think the ASD demo rules. The Fairlight one is also very nice. I didn’t really feel much for the rest of them. But still, good stuff!
