The million year old blog

Yes yes yes, ooooook, about 50 emails so far. =) I know, I know, I swear! So yes, Zine #13 was released this morning, Europe time, which explains why I was asleep at the time it was released, so please let me wake up first and then [now] I will certainly write about it. 😉
The much anticipated 13th issue of the Zine digital magazine, as it was apparent from the headlines that were released earlier, has a great deal to offer. At the first glance, the interface is definitely one of the cutest ones I have seen, and at the same time it’s very smooth and simple to use. The music selection is also a nice complement to the good looks. Of course the most important part of any magazine would be the article, and the Zine team has definitely done an excellent job with that as well. There’s a wide range of articles about all things Demoscene related, and I would say that for all of your guys and gals out there who are curious about different aspects of the Demoscene, this is certainly a must read. So, go ahead and check it out!
If by any slight chance you have problem viewing the magazine, as far as I could find out from bitfellas.org, there is going to be an online edition sooner or later. So don’t worry too much.
And well, yes, that is my picture on the thumbnail. Read the magazine and you shall know why. 😉

Everything A+! Good reads. 🙂
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyy you told them about the demoshows! 🙂
Jeez, this is a magazine? I feel like we’re living in 5008!
Ok this is what I call a cool digital magazine. Something of interest for everyone!
The user interface is dreamy, and the articles are great. Specially the one has to do with a certain someone we all know! 😉
YAAAAAAAAY cute pictures of the cute Aasemoon! That’s enough for me to be a fan. ^_^
That interview with the designers was very interesting to me. Altogether, pretty cool magazine.
Great stuff, as expected.
Hey Aasemoon, thanks for keeping us in the loop. Yeah the magazine is great.
emm, guys! This is probably going to sound rediculus to you but I can’t find out how to navigate or read the articles! On the thread it has been said that you can look at a “how to” article or something like that, but I can’t find that one either!! Help?!!!?
J.J., it doesn’t sound right. Probably it’s not running correctly. I had no problem with anything, great GUI and great articles.
Wow, I think I’m going to have problems getting back to the world of paper magazines! o_O
If you can’t run it, it’s most certainly a problem with your graphics card or the drivers for it. I’m sure they use some quite advanced stuff and maybe even shaders for the antialiasing.
So, I’m not really the expert but you could try to troubleshoot this:
– Do you have the latest DirectX available for your system? v10 is only available for Vista, btw.
– Do you have the lastes graphics driver for your chipset? Check your manufacturers support section on their website.
– Does your chipset support 3D natively (nvidia/ati) or is it some sort of intel graphics chipset? those are heavily limited, functionwise, and most games/demos don’t work or work not really well. For example, layer transparency is one of those features which are an indicator for not very supportive chipsets (“seeing the background but no content or black borders all over the place”)
– If you run an onboard chipset, make sure you allocate enough space to the gfxchip in the BIOS. Those fancy things tend to use hell of a lot of video memory, so 16mb might be a little low.
– When was the last time you reinstalled windows? 🙂
– In case they use OpenGL, you basically need to have a decent graphics chipset for it to run without any problems.
– Keep in mind that also nvidia and ati released cheap versions of their chipsets to achieve lower prices etc.
– You can find out about your chipset if you search for the specifications of your laptop/computer or ask the nerd next to you. 🙂
Well, hope this helps someone. If not, it didn’t hurt. 😉
Hey guys, genox, I was able to read the magazine on my bro’s PC today which is about a 10 years older than mine. I figured that yeah it actually is a technical problem. I couldn’t navigate because half the content is not appearing. Then I read the pouet.net threads, and apparently it can’t be a shaders problem or something of that sort. I considered your solutions too, but I somehow have a feeling it can’t be that. Because my pcs graphical capabilities are like 10 times more than my bro’s. But I’ll look into it again.
Yeah the magazine managed to look good even on my old crappy pc. Good job to the creators. The articles are very interesting too.
Hmm =0
Well, I don’t know for sure. If all the demos and games work just fine, it might aswell be a bug in the application which only becomes a problem on rare configurations.
Did you try running it in windowed mode in standard 4:3 resolutions (e.g. 800×600), turning off the music and everything? Try without VSync, too.
I have a similar problem when I tried to run it on my VM in OSX. The window shows but there’s no content or graphics displayed except for the white rectangle with black bars above and beyond it. it works fine when I boot windows tho. 🙂
Ah, intersting, why didn’t I think about that? I gotta boot windows..
Duuuuuuude it’s awesome! Those guys are really into what they do!

Davy, I second that!
Yeah it has some very interesting articles. I mean it even managed to make me read!
Well now the entire world knwos about the demoshows or so? 😀
Convincing Aasemoon to publish a photo of her.. 2 thumbs up just for that. 😀
Oh yeah the music rocks too!
It was a surprise to see yourself featured in this issue 🙂
Ohhh!! Loook!!! It’s you!!!! It’s about the demoshows!!!! 😀 I second optimus, it’s a surprise!
@ Optimus & Dean: Yup I guess it’s been a bit of a surprise! 😉
Fantastic! 🙂
Top notch material. I would allow them to publish a photo of me any day! 😉
@ Dino: LOL
Yeah it seems like a lot of work has gone into this magazine eh? It shows!
Dino, the thing is, a picture of Aasemoon on the magazine cover makes me want to read the magazine. A picture of you on the magazine cover would make me want to not read the magazine. 😉
Great magazine!
@ Sheldon: =))))))
I seem to have the same problem jj. When I run the exe, I only see a group of picture thumbnail that I can brows, but that’s it. No articles. And I usually have no problems with anything requring shaders or anything else of that sort. Wonder what could be the cause of this?
Neal, just try it on a different PC. Even if it’s an older PC!
I didn’t have any problems reading the articles on my not so new pc. The interface looks fabulous.
Ran the program and read the magazine with absolutely no problem. It was a nice read.
Oops, system crash here! Help! Help!
Hey that’s not fair! What would be wrong with a picture of me on a magazine? :PPPPPPP
Holy cows man! This guys are dedicated to what they do!
Yeah, and I don’t even manage to finish a decent lab report. Kudos to this guys!
Damn straight!
So now, the question is, when is next demo show? 🙂
Aasemoon on Zine??
ZOMG!! how can that be? =P
(hint: let’s just say a certain individual pointed zine to the right direction ehehehehe)
And now because of that certain individual, the demoshows we attended are globally known! 😀

Coolest magazine ever! Way to go guys.
But kidding aside, it’s a great magazine and the interview was very interesting.
hi everyone. Thanks for all your kind comments. We’re glad that you liked ZINE, and we know we’re already late with ZINE 14, shame on us. 🙂 But eventually we’ll get there. And when we do, you’ll surely hear it from Aasemoon. 🙂
