The million year old blog
13 Dec
A couple of weeks ago, I had an offer to do some modelling for a pretty well known Italian fashion brand. The offer came to me through an Italian musician/artist friend of mine who is active in that field, and in touch with the founder of that brand. I told my friend that I was very flattered [which I really, truly am, believe me! =)], but working in that specific field is just not an interest of mine, and really not in harmony with my life style and fields of activity and work that I’m interested and involved in.
So my friend relayed my response to his friend [a lady working for the brand], and then came the real surprise. A few days ago my friend told me that his friend had said that she was wondering why I had said no to the offer, since she had seen my profile on Facebook [oh, yeah!] and I had listed “modelling” as one of my interests. Apparently she was very curious as to whether I have an offer from some other brand or agency that I somehow found more interesting. =P
Well, as you can imagine I had very big round eyes when I read my friend’s message saying all that. I knew that unless I was suffering from multiple personalities disorder, I couldn’t have possibly listed “modeling” as an interest of mine, and to all honestly I don’t think my friend believed that I had done so either. =P So then I ended up doing some digging in my own Facebook profile, and guess what… I discovered that I did in fact have the keyword “modeling” in there. Quite a few times too actually. Page names such as “Modeling the World” and “NLP Modeling” and numerous others with the “modeling” keyword most certainly are listed in my interests. =P Except of course, [well here comes the funny], those are all about _SCIENTIFIC MODELLING_!!! D’UH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here’s the moral of my story, and my advice to all the recruiters out there: Make sure your target model is interested in the same kind of modelling as you are. =P And when you see something with the word modelling in it on someone’s FB profile, CLICK ON IT, you’ll see it may or may not have anything to do with your kind of modelling. And yes, there are, in fact, OTHER KINDS OF MODELLING in this world! =PP
We’re still having a good laugh over this so thank you….. ;))))

You should do the job, you need to break out of your sony world – it's not a statement of values, it's just an experience. Fashion is a whole lot more interesting than perhaps you give it credit, and is becoming intertwined with technology (wearables). It may take you in an interesting direction. You have to learn to listen to the universe when it is talking to you.
"All my life I tried to mend the bucket, until, all at once, the bottom fell out. No water in the bucket! No moon reflected in the water!"
LOL. Well, you ARE a model net-izen. And who knows, you might get some new blue boots or something out of the deal. Or even you're own reality show.
@ Kurt: Welllll… yes and no. You're quite right, fashion could in fact go to interesting directions nowadays. But honestly this is more a matter of priorities than anything else. My life is quite multidimensional, and I'm involved in quite a few gigs other than my professional interests. But then you can't do everything. Time is pretty limited, and I can only choose things that I really have a passion for. Fashion I'm afraid, specially given the "other" things involved in that industry nowadays, really just isn't something that I feel an interest towards.
I did however say "perhaps at a later time". =) We'll see….
@ Fishy: Hahaha reality show? That's enough to make me run to the opposite direction with the speed of light! =)))))
Well, respect for that decision, i don't think fashion/modelling is an experience you need to make in life.
I think the power to resist, to say 'No', is a better listening to the universe, than just making use of each opportunity in life, and believing everything i do is fine, if i just don't think to much.
It's a dekadent world of "i'm beauty and need to be famous" and very superficially.
Luckily, you do what many other people should too, using their brains, get knowledge and not just going the easier way.
That's the way you'll be respected by others and much more important, by yourself.

@ Anonymous: Thanks a lot for your kind comment. And yes, I fully agree with the points you're making.
Sorry for my bad english.
I know modelling/fashion isn't equal to erotic or nude Fotos, but i was for example really impressed by the words of actress Cate Blanchett:
"There would never be a topless or nude scene/foto of her, this look of her is only for her husband."
Wow, in a world of nudity, sex and disappointings around every corner, that's a clear statement and earns respect.
The same thing i thought, by reading your biography, learning 6 different languages of speaking AND programming, and being one of the rare wifes in this domain is the way you were/get respected, and i believe it's also the way you want to be respected.
I think everyone wants to be loved for what he/she is and does, and not (only) for the way he/she looks.
I wish you a wonderful and happy new year, stay the way you are, and keep the right path by listening to yourself.
@ Anonymous: Thanks again for your kind comment. =) [Btw, I'm not a wife though! ;)]
Oh and thanks a lot for the links. =)
