The million year old blog
26 Mar
Hey all, how was your long weekend? With the current Toronto weather, mine could have ended up quite boring. But of course it didn’t, as I was saved by the miracle of ASD! =D The Breakpoint demoparty was held during the weekend, and there were quite a few awesome demos competing in various categories, including ASD’s new demo by the name Metamorphosis. This demo is one of the most different, artistic and refreshing demos that I have seen up to this day. I’m not going to say more about it here, because you just have to see it. And by the way it seems that the Rogers problem with pouet.net has been resolved somehow, so you’re not going to have any problems accessing the page hopefully. Make sure you also check out other demos released in Breakpoint 08. Some of my favorites:
– Masagin by Farbrausch [This one is incredibly cute! =) ]
– Challenger Deep by Traction & Brainstorm [Extremely Beautiful]
– theBeauty by Einklang.net [Colourful demo]
– Linear by SQNY [Darn kool style]
– Concentrate by Adapt [Some very cool effects]
– Diego on e – Unfortunately I have no clue who made this [Very very colourful and pretty demo]
– 60 Seconds for Mr. Light by Anadune [Underrated unfortunately.. I found it absolutely adorable]
– Wild Demo: Craft by lft [Oh Jeez… this one is awesome in ways I can’t possibly explain!]
On a bit of a different topic, NVISION anyone? A couple of weeks ago I sent a whole load of information out about NVISION, for people who have left an email address with me to be kept in the loop with any demoscene related events. But so far no one has got back to me. Is there anybody who’s going? In case you’re wondering what this is about, check here. NVISION is a newly born demoparty which will be held in the San Jose, from 25th to 27th of August, and from what my understanding is, it’s going to be pretty darn cool. And yes it’s true, unfortunately I can’t go because at that point in time my plane will be going to the opposite direction. But you can be sure that I would go if I were to be around. So if you’re going, let me know. And if you’re not sure yet, well, just GO! =) Don’t miss this!
Update: ALSO ALSO… Jeez how could I forget to write this? The scene.org awards ceremony was also held during the Breakpoint, and you can find a complete list of winners here. Congratulations to ASD for winning the award for the best demo, as well as a couple of more categories. Make sure you check the winner for Breakthrough Performance too, it’s very cute. Cool stuff. Going the check the demos right away.
The new ASD demo sorta freaked me out in a good way. It really is very different than any other demo.
Ouch… that demo is somewhat painful. With the blood and all. I like it’s message if I got it right.
OMG those ants are so real! It gave me a weird feeling. Altogether the demo is quite artsy. Maybe a little too artsy for my taste but I still liked it. Now I have to go and see the rest of them.
Yay new ASD demo. It’s different but it didn’t freak me out or anything, I liked it a lot. I also liked that Masagin demo, it’s very cartoonish.
Wooohooo! ASD manages to surprise again. It’s not just a different demo, it’s a very very very very extremely different demo. 🙂
It’s cool that ASD won the best demo, but I think they should have won music too.
Way to change style ASD! This shows that they can make a great demo even with less eye candy. That wild demo, I see why you’re so excited about it! 🙂
Great stuff the new ASD demo. I do love their eye candy demos a lot, but this one is cool in a different way. The Mr. Light demo would have been even better if it was a small bit longer. But it was cute regardless. I have to see the rest of them yet.
Reeeeeeeeeeeeally enjoyed this new ASD demo. It’s kind of dark, and as already mentioned, very artistic. I also liked all the rest of the demos you’ve listed. I don’t pretend to have understood much of the wild demo though.
I can’t say that I have seen that many demos. But among the ones I have seen, this is one of the best. It’s so full of background meaning. It’s no surprize that ASD won the best demo award, Lifeforece is an ace. They should have won more categories.
By the way, in regards to the NVISION. Did anybody get back to you yet? The problem is that most people around here like to watch demos but they’re not demo makers so maybe they don’t see the point in going.
I have mixed feelings about the ASD demo. I also have mixed feelings about the Farbrausch demo. One is too dark and the other one is too fluffy. But I really liked the Mr. Light demo.
I found all of the demos pretty cool, other than Diego (it was a bit too much color for me). The Challenger Deep was the most beautiful. Metamorphosis is awesome too.
Oh Challenger Deep… oh wow! I wonder how that demo looked like on the big screen. It’s beautiful. The ASD demo I guess isn’t meant to be beautiful, it’s supposed to send a message and that it’s doing quite fine.
I was thinking about going to NVISION but the problem is the plane tickets cost too much around here. I mean going from Canada to USA isn’t exactly comparable to going from one europian country to the other.
I totally enjoyed the new ASD demo and the lft demo. Good ones.
A very werid demo by asd indeed. I like it.
I like linear by SQNY. I’m still not sure how I feel about the ASD demo, I should see it a couple of times more. I also agree with what mike said about NVISION.
Way to go ASD! They’ve done it again. If ASD were to release something in NVISION I would go.
Coooooooooooooooool! This is my idea of art. ASD knows how to do art.
YAY ASD, way to go! Those guys never dissapoint. 🙂
Just like everybody else already said, I think that the ASD demo is a very welcome suprise. I haven’t watched the rest of them yet but I’m going to. Yeah I did see your info about NVISION, but honestly I think that for most people around here who are not very active in demoscene the thought may be that it’s not worth it. I personally think it would be worth it if the europian groups were there. But last year me and Ivan were in the states in the right time to do a quick check on Pilgrimage, and we didn’t see anything interesting happening. I think that demoscene pretty much happens only in europe. If I go there at some point, I will attend a demo party there. But I don’t think I will pay the plane ticked to visit an american party.
The ASD demo could have even placed 1st. 🙂
[don’t pay attention to this… it’s a test for my OpenID]
What’s openID?
So yeah the demos are all pretty good, specially the one by Adapt. I have to agree with what Lenny said about Nvision. I visited the website and so far I don’t see much interesting stuff. Perhaps in a bit, when they have more info there.
I don’t know about nvision, but I would have gone to breakpoint if I were living in europe. So much amazing demos.
Challenger Deep was the most beautiful, and Metamorphosis was the most stunning imao.
I really really liked all of these demos you have listed. I guess I have to say that I agree with what Lenny said. All of the good demos that I have seen come from europian parties. I have looked into what gets released and who attends the few parties that happen in the US, and I have seen some rather nice things, but lets be honest here, it’s not nearly good enough to convince me to buy plane tickets and go to the states for an american party. On the other hand it seems that NVISION is going to be different. I don’t know. Is it possible to find out what groups attend or compete in NVISION?
I’m pretty much with Jake and Lenny on the nvision topic. I think most people will be able to decide easier whether or not they want to go, if they know what demogroups are going to be there taking part in the competitions. I guess that information may be available close to the party. But to be frank, I can tell you that people will go only if they feel that they are going to see some nice things. Like the demos that were recently released in breakpoint.
Hey guys… yeah I see your point. I have also received a bunch of emails saying exactly the same thing, and asking the exact same question. I don’t know, honestly, who’s going just yet. But I will certainly ask around and let you know what I can find out.
Well looks like a lot is happening. The demos you have listed are all superb. About NVISION, I just read your note. Let us all know if anything else comes up.
